The Heidelberg Ion Therapy Center (HIT)

The University Hospital Heidelberg (UKHD) is regarded as one of Europe’s most advanced medical institutions, providing an exceptionally wide range of treatments for both common conditions and rare diseases. Its environment is designed to support top-tier, innovative medical care at an international level, ensuring patients receive the highest quality treatment.

The Heidelberg Ion Therapy Center (HIT) is directly linked—both geographically and organizationally—to the National Center for Tumor Diseases (NCT) at Heidelberg University Hospital. The NCT, Germany’s first Comprehensive Cancer Center, is recognized as one of the country’s leading oncology hubs. It provides an extensive range of cutting-edge and innovative treatment approaches for nearly all cancer types.

For particularly complex medical cases, interdisciplinary teams of specialists design individualized treatment plans for each patient. When required, combined chemotherapy can be administered in adjacent facilities, such as the Children’s Hospital or the NCT.

Information provided by the Airomedical platform.

The facility includes 50 specialized clinical departments and 13 theoretical and pre-clinical institutes. Each year, its team of 11,300 medical professionals cares for around 65,000 inpatients and over one million outpatients, including roughly 27,000 individuals from abroad. UKHD offers 1,991 beds in modern, comfortable single and double rooms. Patients and accompanying persons can choose from at least three daily meal options, with vegetarian and halal dishes available.
