Dr. Morena Sallabanda Hajro

Dr. Morena Sallabanda graduated in 2013 from Medical School in the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM). As a medical student, she collaborated and published research projects between 2011 and 2013 with the Department of Oncology at the Gregorio Marañón University General Hospital (Madrid, Spain). She also completed an internship in the summer of 2012 in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Massachusetts General Hospital (Boston, USA).

From 2014 to 2018, Dr. Sallabanda completed her residency in Radiation Oncology at the Puerta de Hierro University Hospital in Majadahonda (Madrid, Spain). During her residency, she began a doctoral program at the UCM on radiosurgery for brain metastases. During her final year of residency, Dr. Morena completed a two-month fellowship at UPENN Hospital (Philadelphia, USA), focusing on proton therapy and radiosurgery. She participated in multiple papers presented at national and international conferences and collaborated on the publication of a scientific article on intramedullary radiosurgery.

In 2018, Dr. Sallabanda began working as a radiation oncologist and, starting in 2019, became the coordinator of the Cyberknife Unit at GenesisCare Spain. She graduated in 2019 with a master's degree in brain radiosurgery (UCM) and presented her doctoral thesis in January 2021, earning cum laude honors. In September 2021, Dr. Sallabanda joined the Quirónsalud Proton Therapy Center (Pozuelo de Alarcón, Madrid), where she led the clinical development of an intracranial radiosurgery program with proton therapy. She became the principal investigator of a Phase II clinical trial (Hypofractionated Proton Therapy in Chordomas and Chondrosarcomas of the Skull Base, ClinicalTrials.gov: NCT05861245) and published the first results in Cancers Journal. Since May 2022, she combines her work at the Proton Therapy Center with her position as a radiation oncologist at the Instituto de Radiocirugía Avanzada, which installed the first self-shielded radiosurgery equipment, ZAP-X, at the Santa Elena Hospital (Madrid, Spain).

As graduated radiation oncologist she has published 10 scientific articles on radiosurgery in international journals, participated as a speaker, and presented numerous papers at national and international conferences. She is a professor on the International Master's Degree in CNS Radiosurgery, until 2022 at the UCM and currently at the Alfonso X el Sabio University.
